All —
To no great surprise, I would like to announce that I will be abdicating the throne of Londinium in favor of my Regent and Heir Apparent, Lady Cari.
I've been playing this game a long time, probably too long, and it's extremely rare that a region outgrows their founder. Typically speaking, when a region's founder goes inactive the region's death is usually not far behind.
That hasn't been the case here.
Obviously, for the last year or so, and especially for the last six months, I've not been a driving force in the region. I started Londinium at a time in my life when I had a comfortable but easy job, and lots of free time to balance RL and leisure activities. A second region seemed like the perfect additional activity — the chance to create a brand new community with new quirks and possibly even a new shot at building an NS world power.
Since then, I've actually gone through two new jobs, both much more rigorous and requiring commitment beyond a 9-5 schedule. There's been much made (egged on my Sopo's trolling!!!!!) that I have abandoned this region in favor of my original one. While this is technically true to the extent that I had essentially vanished from NS over last summer and early fall — only re-emerging when it became clear that Europeia was in serious trouble — it devalues the true care and affection I have for this community we have here.
However, with circumstances being what they are, the truly caring and affectionate thing to do now is to let go. There is still an active, dedicated corp of citizens here who deserve to take the reigns and take Londinium where they see fit. The destiny of this region is yours now, and I wish everyone here the best success in showing me up and transforming this community into something beyond where I've ever taken it.
I've never been shy in walking away from authority when I felt I was doing an inadequate job ruling. I stepped down as King in Europeia, and later as Supreme Chancellor, and I offered to step down as King here last August as well. This region and community is more important than me, and it is owed every opportunity to thrive.
With that being said, here are the technical aspects.
— I hereby style myself as Grand Duke, a title which shall be traditionally conferred upon former high kings. The Grand Duke shall be a member of the royal family, though not eligible for succession to the throne unless all other heirs are unavailable or concurrently named as Heir Apparent by the High King.
— Lady Cari shall be given administrative power over the forum, however, I will also retain administrative power as board owner. In addition, I will retain Discord administrative access and weigh in on larger matters that deserve additional counsel.
— I will, for now, retain the founder nation. I'd really prefer not to transfer nation ownership because of the in-game implications that can sometimes cause giant headaches (accusations of WA multi-ing etc.). However, if there are additional CTE episodes, Cari has the right to formally request the nation from me and I'd be a giant asshole to not then hand it over.
This was a long post, but I hope it answers most of the questions out there. If there are more, please ask!
I sincerely hope and believe that this isn't goodbye, and not even farewell, but just a transition to something new and better for all of us.
I'll be spending today making sure all the ducks are in a row, but as of 11:59PM PST tonight my abdication from the throne will be effective and Cari will be High King (or King Queen if they want to remain in female character!!)
Yours, sincerely,
Fortwhile
