It’s been nearly a year and a half since I first waltzed into Londinium. Through my holding various positions I learned a lot about how UCRs work and how misguided I was back then.
Now I stand before you all as your High King. And with this transition comes the perfect opportunity for me to announce some changes I have been planning and hoping to implement, but have, admittedly, let slide.
Gameplay/Foreign Affairs
I’ll be honest, the more time I spend in the Gameplay community the more I hate it. So my goal in recent months has been to maintain a region respectable in the eyes of the powers that be, but we have no real reason to pursue power in this sphere.
Allow me to elaborate. Londinium’s strength has always been its community. A community is something that no founder or monarch can force, it must simply be allowed to grow. So I look at the power players in Gameplay and ask, “Would our community actually benefit from this?” Realistically, I’m probably the most GP-inclined of all of us. So I have come to the conclusion that it is not in our best interest to actively try to become a power player—through GP politics, that is.
In saying this, I want us to instead focus on building relationships with regions more on our level. Reach out to active and reputable communities, and also be open to up-and-coming regions who want to reach out to us. I feel like our current embassy policy allows us to maintain sufficient quality control without being too selective. I intend to take a lead role in building ties with other UCRs—making us a region people want to be friends with.
Internal Affairs
I have to commend Nes for his service as Aedile. Cultural stuff has always been well outside my wheelhouse and is all too often a thankless job. Nes has continued to bring forward new ideas to keep things around here interesting. I want to see this continue, and I would love for other people to get involved and help create and implement these ideas.
Okay enough praising Nes, I feel like that goes against our culture or something.
Government involvement in the day-to-day affairs of the region is fairly good, actually, mostly because almost everyone serves some role in the government. So while we don’t have to do much recruitment of our citizens to do government work, we do need to recruit more residents to the region. Yes, it’s a seemingly fruitless task. No, it’s not going to get any better if nobody does it. We have a couple faithful recruiters here, but we need all hands on deck as much as possible.
The Monarchy
I have already expressed my intentions to revise the vague role of the Monarchy in the region, mostly along the lines of making that article of the constitution functional. Some have expressed a desire to see the region be less dependent on the High King, and I respect that, but I feel like at this time it is an issue with the elected government not exercising autonomy it already has. And I am as guilty of perpetuating that as Consul as anyone.
I see the Monarchy as the face of the region, representing Londinium at home and abroad but allowing the region to run itself. I only intend to step into regional affairs in times of crisis or when a spark of life is needed. But I will always be present to promote and to advise.
Heir Apparent
I already mentioned in Discord that I intended for the heir to be chosen via battle royale. However, my secret cabal has informed me that this is not a good idea. So instead, I have selected Barbaros as my Heir Apparent.
Especially since taking on the Bishop of London role, Barb has displayed consistency, competency, and enthusiasm. But I won’t go on too long about him—you all know him plenty well.
