The Belgrade Treaty (1600)
Belgrade, Kingdom of Yugoslavia - 21 June 1600
The parties to this treaty are determined to safeguard the freedom, common heritage, and civilization of their peoples, founded on the principles of strength and the rule of law. They seek to promote stability and well being in the European Sphere.
They are resolved to unite their efforts for collective defense. They therefore agree to this Belgrade Treaty:
Article 1In order to effectively achieve the objectives of this treaty, the Parties, separately and jointly, by means of continuous and effective self-help and mutual aid, will maintain and develop their individual capacity to resist armed attack.
Article 2
The Parties will consult together whenever, in one of their opinions, the territorial integrity or security of any one of the Parties is threatened.
Article 3
The Parties agree that an armed attack against any one of them constitutes an armed attack against them all and consequently, each of them will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including use of armed force, to restore safety and security to the European Sphere.
Article 4
Under Article 3, an armed attack is taken to include any attack upon the territory of the Parties in the European Sphere or on the African continent; or on the forces or vessels of any of the Parties.
Article 5
The parties hereby establish a council, on which each of them shall be represented to decide matters relating to the implementation of this treaty; this shall not apply to member states of the Deutsches Reich, whose interests shall be represented by their Emperor or a representative thereof. The council shall set up such subsidiary bodies as it deems necessary to properly execute its functions; in particular it shall immediately establish a defense committee to recommend measures for the implementation of Articles 2 and 3.
Article 6
The parties may, by unanimous agreement, invite any other European state in a position to further the stated goals of this treaty to accede to this treaty. Any State so involved may become a Party to the Treaty by depositing its instrument of accession with the Government of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The Government of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia will inform each of the parties of the deposit of each such instrument of accession.
Article 7
This treaty shall be ratified by each of the parties in accordance with each of their respective mechanisms for ratification. This treaty shall enter into force between the states that have ratified it as soon as the Government of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia receives the instruments of ratification of a majority of the signatories.
Article 8
After this treaty has been in force for two years, or any time thereafter, the Parties shall, if any of them requests it, come together for the purposes of reviewing this treaty.
The expected signatories to this treaty are: The Kingdom of Yugoslavia, The Grand Duchy of Cochardia (serving in his capacity as diplomatic minister for the the Deutsches Reich), Austria-Hungary (Emperor of the Deutsches Reich, either in writing or through The Grand Duchy of Cochardia), all other member states of the Deutsches Reich, and the Council Republic of Moscow.
