"Effective immediately, Catalonia is under martial law until further notice. As such, 5,000 troops and 500 army vehicles shall be dispatched to join the army already there in enforcing martial law. A curfew is ordered across Catalonia for 1:00am local time. No one is to leave their front door after that time, lest it be an emergency.
"As a part of this martial law order, all Catalonian departments, including police and emergency departments, are under military security and control.
"Anyone who acts in defiance of the order to drop efforts for Catalonian independence will be arrested immediately, and will be charged with defying king and country. Anyone who protests Spanish military or local police will be arrested immediately, and will be charged with defying king and country.
"May we prosper together."

Royal Announcement from the Royal Family
"I, Ser Harold Godwinson, The Knight of Two, royal speaker of the Durinian Royal Family, announces that after 15 days of treatment and rest of our beloved Emperor Napoleon Durin VI, the Royal Family announces that our beloved Emperor Napoleon Durin VI, will be back in daily duty in the court and will return to his rightful throne. His Majesty regained his full strength after 15 days of treatment and rest after the attempted assassination in the Praetorian Training Grounds. And now, all rise, and remain in deep silence, His Majesty! Emperor Napoleon Durin VI, 3rd Emperor of the Durinian Hellenistic Empire, Supreme Lord Commander of the Royal Durinian Hellenic Armed Forces, Descendant of Durin, and Defender of the Empire.
-Ser Harold Godwinson Knight of Two Speaker of the Royal Family Durinian Hellenistic Empire
Speech of the Emperor "Sons of Durin, all may sit down. Thank you, Ser Godwinson for the introductions. Now in this day, Die 24 mensis Aprilis est Mensis, Annus Fall CCXII, I, the 3rd Emperor of the Durinian Hellenistic Empire, Supreme Lord Commander of the Royal Durinian Hellenic Armed Forces, Descendant of Durin, and Defender of the Empire, Emperor Napoleon Durin VI, gladly appreciated what my Successor did while I was away. Thank you, Lord Commander Napoleon Themistocles Durin for acting on my behalf during my absence. Up until on the current time, the police force, the armed forces and other organizations tasked for the man-hunts and investigations have apprehended almost 200 people that are suspected to be involved in the incident. Further investigations will be made for the apprehended and for those who are in the blacklist and for other person of interest. The fate of these apprehended people are still unknown, but if proven guilty, the will face severe consequence. While I was away, in light of recent events, I proclaim my support to my old comrade, King Felipe VI of Spain and his Federal government against the questionable and unacceptable proclamation of Catalonian independence. During the court earlier this morning, I have heard petitions of Spanish Immigrants residing in my Empire for support, and I also personally wish to help my "amigo" King Felipe VI in having order for his country, for it might create a big shift in the market. So in other words, I proclaim my support to the Spanish Federal Goverment and King Felipe VI of Spain by many means. By economically, militarily or other means of help. This is my word, and my word is beyond contestation. Anyone in any fields, whether in military or the government, defy this command, will be considered as a criminal of heresy."
-Emperor Napoleon Durin VI 3rd Emperor of the Durinian Hellenistic Empire Supreme Lord Commander of the Royal Durinian Hellenistic Armed Forces Direct Descendant of Durin Defender of the Empire

Armenian reponse to the situation in Azerbaijan
After the seperatist revolt in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Armenian majority region of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani government responded with military force, similarly to Spain, this provoked an outrage in Armenia where the people are demanding that the repression ceases and for Nagorno-Karabakh to be given independance and, if possible, for it to unite with Armenia. The State of Azerbaijan has said that ,since the separatists were the first to start with agressive actions, their response was justified.

A statement from the Government of Canada | Un communiqué du gouvernement du Canada
The Canadian government sides with the people of Catalonia. Every people has the right to self-determination, and the blocking of a referendum violates that right.
Secondly, the people of Nagorno-Karabakh and Respublika Srpska also deserve the right to self-determination, although peaceful alternatives must be explored to achieve that goal.

Statement from the Government of Bymaria Regarding Catalonia
Respect for democracy, the law and human rights are well established in the Constitution of Spania. It is therefore to our utmost regret that these principles have been forsaken through the Spanish State’s recent actions in Catalunya.
We are deeply concerned about the rising tension in the region and disturbed at the situation of crisis arising out of Madrid’s response. Suppressing the rights of innocent catalan citizens who campaigned for an independent nation must be denounced. Bymaria must be clear that we do not tolerate attacks on democracy or human rights and urges that other nations join us in ensuring that a diplomatic response is pursued and there is justice for the people of Catalonia.
Not only was the command from Felipe VI morally contemptible, it was highly unconstitutional. Article 62 of the Spanish Constitution establishes the King's functions, all of which are symbolic and do not involve the exercise of any political power. We find it bizarre that the king still seems to be living during the medieval period in which he holds absolute power. Therefore we strongly appeal to the Spanish King to reconsider his actions and revert from this autocratic turn he seems to be taking.
The chancellor and his cabinet pledges their full support to the people and government of Catalonia, acting within their rights to save a democracy under siege. These people, now under oppression by a monarchy most would not associate with, should stand strong united in these troubling and delicate times as we seek a peaceful solution.
Signed: Chancellor Asriel, Foreign Affairs Minister Rhodes, Solicitor General Wren, League of Peace Rep. Nicholls

The Spanish government condemns the recent statements from Bymaria and Canada in support of Catalonian independence, which blatantly show no regard for at least 40 million innocent citizens that would suffer catastrophic effects of Catalonia becoming an independent state, all for the supposed sake of democracy. It seems that they lack consideration for the number of lifestyles that can be devastated, and the potential loss of life for all Spaniards, both Catalonian and non-Catalonian alike.
All of Spanish authority and government has, does, and always will support the individuality of all Spaniards and the provinces that they hail from. All of Spanish authority and government upholds the value of democracy and rights for its citizens. This is specifically why the Spanish government cannot and will not support Catalonian independence at this time. Spain has a desire, obligation, and right to protect the lives and rights of all its citizens, including those of Catalonians.
It is saddening to see that the governments of Bymaria and Canada care more for the opinions of less than 7.5 million people than they do for the lives of more than 40 million people.

After a week of violent protests and rallies, King Felipe VI has ordered the withdrawal of all vehicles and most troops from Catalonia, following a sharp decrease in protests in the last few days. Catalonia is no longer under martial law, however a military presence will stay in government departments and in northeast Catalonia, where most of the protests took place. The no-fly zone has been called off, and a curfew remains only for northeast Catalonia for 2am. 2,000 troops remain to enforce a military presence and curfew.
A total of 257 people have been arrested and charged with defying king and country. Sources say that sentencing will be equated according to the severity of the crime, ranging from a fine to prison time including the possibility of parole for extreme cases.
37 people have been injured in the past week. This number includes two Catalonian police officers critically injured after a protester started shooting a gun at police. The officers are in critical but stable condition.
The current estimate of the damages caused by Catalonian protesters stands at 547 million dollars.
Pro-independence leaders have called for continued efforts to resist the Spanish government, saying: "Keep on fighting. We cannot, and will not stop, until we have freedom." Countering this message is the voice of those Spaniards outside of Catalonia. "They have freedoms," Carlos, and insurance agent said. "They have many freedoms, as many as the rest of Spain. If they want to leave, fine. But don't drag the rest of us into peril, and that's what will happen. I have a wife and family at home." Silent and peaceful protests supervised by police have been the only successfully performed protests seen in the streets of Catalonia.
The international view is quite split right now on the Catalonia Crisis. Bymaria and Canada have voiced their support of an independent Catalonia, while the Spanish government and king have backing from Germany and Greece.
This story is developing. Return back to stay updated.

State of The Duchies
The Prime Minister began, "I have come to address the Duchies today as we look out at the World today. We were notified many weeks ago of the Martial law being imposed upon the people of Catalonia, by the Spanish Government. Although the Duchies have always held freedom and liberty sacred and close to their hearts, we must realize the risks of our allies and friends, and remain neutral in the battle between Catalonian Independence and Spanish control. Secondly, it was not awhile ago that I met with US President Donald Trump to discuss the state of NATO and the US-Cochardian relations. It was to my pleasure that we were able to meet on many points and agree on them. Following this meeting, our Duchies have decided to raise the percentage that we give to NATO, to help fill the gap and relieve the amount the US currently provides. Thirdly, an EU Summit has been set to take place in Brussels in the following days to discuss reforms and the prospects of new abilities. This is to come as many countries have tirelessly called for the reforms and prospects of tweaking the EU. It has been a pleasure to speak with your families and friends today, and May God Bless the United Duchies, and May God Bless the Grand Duke."

LoP Report Places Sierra Leone as least developed countryIn a League of Peace report on underdeveloped countries, published on Friday, it has been revealed that Sierra Leone is the nation with the lowest GNI per capita and also has the lowest HDI in the world. Sub-saharan Africa was found to be the least developed region on earth. The document also found that the people born in the country today can expect to live until just 50 years, 1/10 adults live with HIV and that the average household income is around a dollar a day. Limited access to water, healthcare and education have been suggested to be the root of the problem. The president, Julius Maada Bio, has called for more foreign investment into the country and Africa as a whole. Malawi was also found to be extremely underdeveloped. The LoP has urged its member states to commit more to foreign aid to help Sierra Leone and other African countries named. First summit of European Council to be held! The European Union (under the leadership of Cochardia, Bymaria and Germany) have decided to hold the first summit this year of their heads of government and heads of state. Topics expected to be discussed include sustainable development, the euro, Spain, Brexit, as well as the the militaristic & feudal state of War Durin. The leaders of the summit have expressed a desire to see the EU’s influence grow and for a renewed prosperity to begin. [The summit shall take place privately in the EU discord server located at discord.gg/mU7fG2C , but a summary will likely be posted here] Scotland to hold independence ReferendumWith the rising discontentment in Scotland, the First Minister’s request to hold a second independence referendum was granted today by London. Results from the 2017 Brexit referendum showed that Scotland voted wholeheartedly AGAINST and this is expected to be a recurring theme in the campaign. Nicola Sturgeon gave a speech in Edinburgh, saying “Scotland’s voice must be heard. With Brexit, the bedroom tax, a flawed British foreign policy and lack of control over issues which greatly affect Scotland, I believe now is the time. Let us put the normal divisions of politics aside. Let us come together as one country; let us seize this historic moment to shift the balance of power from the corridors of Westminster to the streets and communities of Scotland.” China Asserts its Strength in the Sea of JapanFollowing numerous flying operations earlier this year, China has once again tried to strengthen their presence in the Sea of Japan, with several destroyers and spying vessels being spotted. Their new aircraft carrier now sails the sea and has been parading near Japan, presumably sending the message of Chinese domination in the East. Last night, spy planes violated Japanese aircraft once again. It is no secret that, historically, Japan and China do not maintain favourable relations, but China’s actions are expected to escalate this tension further. Catalonians March in Protest of SpainThousands of Catalonian nationalists have gathered in Barcelona, protesting their “oppression under Spanish rule” and the rejection of their independence declaration. They demand that all imprisoned for the charge of “defying king and country” be released. Jailed Catalan political leaders are also calling on the EU to stop looking the other way and to intervene to “ensure that [their] rights are restored”. The protestors waved banners reading “What prison will suffice”.
